A dedicated development team for a US company is a group of engineers who work only on your product, in your repositories and tools, with a daily overlap with your team and a clean handover at the end of it. DataVolve employs, equips and replaces the engineers; you set the priorities and own the work.
Our engineers are in Pakistan, on UTC+5. That is a big time difference from the US, and the honest answer is that it works well for some teams and badly for others. This page explains which, and what US buyers usually need settled before they sign.
How does a team on UTC+5 work with US hours?
In short: a few hours of live overlap with your morning, then a written handover so work moves forward overnight.
Pakistan does not use daylight saving, so the gap is one hour wider in US winter than in summer. Here is your working day in our engineers’ time:
| Your time zone | Your 9:00–17:30 in Pakistan (summer / winter) | Realistic live overlap |
|---|---|---|
| Eastern (EDT / EST) | 18:00–02:30 / 19:00–03:30 | 3–4 hours of your morning on a late shift |
| Central (CDT / CST) | 19:00–03:30 / 20:00–04:30 | 2–3 hours of your morning |
| Pacific (PDT / PST) | 21:00–05:30 / 22:00–06:30 | 1–2 hours; the rest runs async |
East Coast teams usually get a stand-up and a working session every morning. West Coast teams get a short daily call and rely on written handovers. If your product needs engineers on hand all afternoon Pacific time, for example to pair with a live support team, a nearshore or onshore partner may suit you better, and we will say so.
How the async handover works
In short: you finish your day with clear tickets; you start the next one with reviewed, deployable work.
A typical 24-hour cycle with an East or West Coast team
- Your afternoonYou or your product lead comment on yesterday’s work and update ticket priorities
- Your evening and nightEngineers build, test and open pull requests against those tickets
- Before your morningWritten summary per ticket, preview deployment and any open questions listed
- Overlap windowStand-up, decisions on open questions, pairing on anything blocked
- You review and mergeNothing reaches production without your team’s approval
The upside is real: a bug report filed at 4 p.m. Eastern can have a fix waiting for review the next morning. The cost is discipline. Someone on your side has to own priorities and answer questions within the overlap window.
Which engagement model fits your company?
In short: choose by who will direct the work, not by headcount.
| Your situation | Model | What we provide |
|---|---|---|
| You have a CTO and a backlog, but not enough engineers | Dedicated developers | Senior engineers who join your sprints and code review |
| Your team lacks one skill: QA, DevOps, mobile, AI/ML | Staff augmentation | Specialists added to your existing process |
| You have a product but no engineering team | Full product team | Designer, engineers, QA, DevOps and a project manager who runs delivery and a weekly demo |
| You want a defined system built to a fixed price | Not a dedicated team | A scoped project instead: see custom software development for US businesses |
Our engineers work in React, Node.js, Python and AWS, and in React Native and Flutter for mobile. AI/ML engineers build the kind of LLM and automation features described on our AI automation page, and a dedicated team can also extend or rebuild a sales system like those on our custom CRM development page. For how we run projects generally, see custom software development.
Who employs the engineers, and why it matters
In short: when the partner employs the engineers, the payroll and classification questions sit with the partner.
Hiring individual offshore freelancers directly puts the classification question on you. The IRS looks at behavioral control, financial control and the type of relationship to decide whether someone is an employee or an independent contractor, and misclassification can create employment tax liability.
With a dedicated team, you contract with DataVolve as a company. The engineers are on our team; payroll, benefits, equipment and replacement are ours to handle. Rules vary by agency and state, so take your own advice on your specific setup. This is not legal or tax advice.
Who owns the code?
In short: you do, through a written assignment, with the code in your accounts from day one.
Under US copyright law, a work made for hire is either created by an employee within the scope of employment, or specially commissioned in one of nine listed categories under a written agreement. Software is not one of those nine categories, as the US Copyright Office’s Circular 30 sets out. A “work for hire” clause on its own is therefore not enough for code written by a supplier’s team.
Our contracts include a written assignment of all intellectual property in the work to your company. Just as important, the repository, cloud accounts and domains are in your company’s name from the first commit, so there is never anything to hand back.
Security and privacy questions US buyers ask
In short: expect your vendor review to cover access, data handling and secure development, and get the answers in writing.
- Vendor security. The FTC’s Start with Security guidance tells businesses to put security expectations for service providers in writing, verify compliance, and restrict access to sensitive data. We work inside your accounts with named, least-privilege access you can revoke at any time.
- State privacy laws. California’s privacy law (CCPA, as amended by the CPRA) applies to for-profit businesses that meet thresholds such as gross annual revenue of $26.625 million or more, and it places separate obligations on service providers and contractors, according to the California Privacy Protection Agency. If it applies to you, your service provider contract terms should cover our access.
- Health data. If engineers would create, receive, maintain or transmit protected health information for a covered entity, the HIPAA Privacy Rule requires the assurances to be documented in a written agreement (45 CFR 164.502(e)). Most build work can avoid production PHI by using de-identified or synthetic data.
- SOC 2 questionnaires. Many US customers send one. We do not claim SOC 2 certification or a SOC 2 report; we answer your questionnaire in writing, control by control, and tell you plainly where your own controls carry the requirement.
What does a dedicated development team cost compared with a US hire?
In short: compare against the fully loaded cost of a US engineer, then get our price per role in writing.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports a median annual wage of $135,980 for software developers (May 2025). Across private industry, benefits make up about 30% of employer compensation costs (June 2026).
Illustrative example: if salary is 70% of the total, a $135,980 salary implies roughly $194,000 a year in compensation costs, before recruiting fees, equipment, software and management time. Senior engineers in major tech hubs cost more.
We do not publish a flat monthly rate: the price depends on role, seniority and length of engagement, and it is confirmed in writing and invoiced in US dollars. The in-house vs outsourced development cost calculator lets you model a team with your own numbers; its defaults are illustrative only. Market rates for other routes are compared in our guide to hiring remote developers.
How to start
In short: a call, a written plan within 24 hours, and engineers in your repository within one to two weeks.
- Tell us your stack, the roles you need, your time zone and any compliance requirements.
- Get a written team plan, overlap hours and price in US dollars within 24 hours.
- Interview the engineers who will do the work.
- Sign, grant least-privilege access, and ship a first small ticket in week one.
